Warner Bros. is betting everything on one card with ‘Superman’, the first film of the new DC Studios era led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The key to being the Man of Steel, according to creative, is to treat "everyone with kindness and respect," and that's where David Corenswet came in.

“I've seen sets that cater to an actor's or director's ego, and that's not something that would happen to David,” comments Gunn. "He's Superman, even with his geekiness. He listens to jazz classics. Like that's what he listens to, like that's his usual form. Like Superman, he's a simple man in complicated times." And, really, the physique can be worked on to develop, but modifying the character is more complicated, and Gunn wanted an actor who could match Christopher Reeve himself.
