Warner Bros. is betting everything on one card with ‘Superman’, the first film of the new DC Studios era led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The former head of the Guardians of the Galaxy at Marvel carries a great responsibility on his shoulders, and is that the company of David Zaslav can not afford another failure, since it would be fatal to the stability of the company.

Gunn, however, has full confidence in David Corenswet as Man of Steel and in a new interview has revealed why he chose him as the heir to Henry Cavill. The casting to find the new Clark Kent was very thorough and extensive, but the also responsible for 'Creature Commandos' was very clear from the beginning.

In an interview for Time, James Gunn assures that he did not look at the muscles of the candidates to be Superman, nor their physical abilities, nothing like that. The creative only observed how each of the artists who went through the selection process was, paying attention to how they treated others. The key to being the Man of Steel, according to creative, is to treat "everyone with kindness and respect," and that's where David Corenswet came in.

“I've seen sets that cater to an actor's or director's ego, and that's not something that would happen to David,” comments Gunn. "He's Superman, even with his geekiness. He listens to jazz classics. Like that's what he listens to, like that's his usual form. Like Superman, he's a simple man in complicated times." And, really, the physique can be worked on to develop, but modifying the character is more complicated, and Gunn wanted an actor who could match Christopher Reeve himself.
